Dad... this is what you meant when you said I had to find my own path, right?

Aaric sat under a wide-leafed tree, alone, except for the marsupial Pokémon sitting in his lap. His arrival in the Orange Islands was ideal - it meant he could escape from all of the bullies he dealt with in Viridian and focus on honing his skills. After all - if he wanted to one day return and face his dad, it meant he had to become as good a tactician as he was, if not better.

"Whoa, is that you? Aaric?"
"Terri?" Aaric looked up, looking towards his childhood friend - the two had grown distant a ways back, too different to remain friends - so it was a real shock to see someone so familiar in a world so new.
"How many times do I have to tell you, don't call me that! That name's Terrence!"
"But-"
"Looks like I have to beat some sense into you, looks like my Pokémon is gonna have to beat that little furball into a pulp to knock some sense into you!"
"You haven't changed one bit, have you..."

Name: Terrence
Age: 17

Terrence approached you with his new Pattle. "En garde! You are my rival from now on." He said as he let out his Pyroo.

Are you watching closely?

"Pyroo, give it your all! Scratch!" Terrence yelled, and the two Pokémon approached each other- Pyroo hopped forward eagerly, while Koaleaf seemed to wait a moment before striking, but both hit their mark. It appeared it'd be a long battle.

His Pokémon knows the same attack. What to do...
Upon seeing his own Pokémon wince at taking the Scratch attack, Aaric's thought process broke down to what he knew was the only possible course of action - his own Pokémon knew only Scratch and Growl, and thus he had to do the best he could with what he had available - which was, in this case, an all out offensive, despite Pyroo's :classicfire: type. If Terrence had just gotten his own Pokémon - which looked apparent by the equal ground they seemed to have in the initial strike - then maybe Pyroo wouldn't have any :classicfire: moves.

"Koaleaf, keep at it with Scratch!"

(OoC: xP Might have something to do with the fact that Growl tends to lead to your own downfall in equal-ground battles. Unless of course you land a critical - one Growl and you're behind in damage, and next thing you know, your Rival has smited you. Every time for me, at least. Maybe I just have bad luck. xP)

"I think he's tiring out! Hit him with Scratch again, Koaleaf! You can do it!" Of course, Aaric was giving his own Pokémon the benefit of the doubt - despite both of the Pokémon visibly tiring.

Seeing his own Pokémon's stamina wearing down, Aaric bit at his lip - he couldn't let his first real battle end in defeat, especially not to a friend turned bully. "Koaleaf, finish it now with another Scratch attack!"

And you win, get cash, and exp stuff while your rival stomps off, being a poor sport like rivals usually are.

"Haha, great job! We won! You deserve a bit of a rest, Koaleaf, return!" Returning the :classicgrass: marsupial Pokémon to his Pokeball, Aaric looked around for where to go next - the only possible route seeming to be Route 201.
Route 201, here I come. Dad, I hope you're getting stronger, too.
