INSERT WITTY PHRASE HERE!

"Thank you for your help, professor." "It's no trouble at all. From what you're telling me, this is a miracle." A light chuckle. "Twice in twelve hours. Where is the other one...?" "We moved him to Norman's. Said he wouldn't mind lending his home for recovery." "Good man, good man... oh! Are you waking up?" Reia groaned faintly. She assumed the voice was talking to her, but she had yet to find the power to open her eyes again. She felt something touch her hand, and felt in turn a knee-jerk reaction as she pulled her hand away immediately. There was a little blast of pain, followed by a deep ache in her elbow-- an ache, she realized, that covered her entire body. "Good sign," the voice said again. "Very good... captain, I appreciate your effort." "Wasn't me," the other voice said. "My men got her out and kept her stable. I just drove the ship." "Good men you have, then. But I suppose..." "Yes, we'll have to be leaving. We were headed Kanto..." "Of course. Safe journey." She heard shuffling, the creak of a door hinge, the slam of a door. There was quiet in the room save for the low hum of some sort of machine, and finally, finally, she opened her eyes. She tried to sit up, but the ache of her body was also accompanied by stiffness, and it hurt to move too much. Before her, though her vision was still watery, she saw a man, bearded and unkempt and powerful looking through her watery eyes, wearing white. He was turned mostly away, but as she tried to right herself he turned to face her. "Are you all right?" he asked. She tried to find her voice, eventually managing to eke out, "Been better." "I can imagine so," he said. "Where 'm I?" she asked. "My laboratory," the man said. "We retrofitted one of the Pokémon healers to work on you. Impressive job you did." He seemed to anticipate her follow-up question, and said quickly, "My name is Professor Birch. You're presently in Littleroot Town, in Hoenn." "What...?" "A ship found you adrift offshore of the Orange Islands," he explained. "They were headed for Kanto, but Hoenn was the closest port. They brought you in and took you to me. You had a nasty injury on your head... can you tell me who you are and where you're from?" "I'm... I'm Reia," she managed. "Reia Flaurus. I'm from Saffron-- no, sorry. I've been in the Orange Islands for a little while, last thing I remember is being on the docks at Mikan..." "Are you a Pokémon trainer?" She nodded. "Do you remember how you wound up in the water?" She shook her head. He nodded. "Perhaps not," he murmured. "That bump probably has something to do with that." He looked at her for a moment, then asked, very gently, "Where are your Pokémon?" "Where?" she asked, confused. "I... what do you mean?" "We checked your satchel. Your Pokedex was inside, and some of your supplies. Your pokedex still works. Registered some Pokémon I've never seen, too, very interesting, I'll have to take a vacation out in the islands one day..." He stopped himself. "Sorry. But no Pokémon." No Pokémon? Why would there be no... What happened to me? She tried to sit up again. It hurt, but she managed to get herself completely upright. Her head promptly exploded, buzzing echoed through her mind, but she fought it down and eventually everything returned to normal. "Don't move," Professor Birch said. "You aren't fit to leave yet." "I gotta," she breathed. "Gotta get back to the Orange Islands, my-- my parents, they don't know what's..." "I can't let you go," Birch said bluntly. "At least not until tomorrow. You're in no state to travel, you need rest. You took a lot of damage..." "Please, sir..." "No. Can't have it." He gently pressed her down against the bed she was lying in. "We'll discuss this further when you wake up." "I can't stay..." "Ralts," he said, and a small creature promptly formed at the edge of her bed. It looks like a small child kneeling next to her, covered in a far-too-large helmet that shielded its eyes. It looked at her curiously, until Birch instructed, "Hypnosis." The red horn on its head pulsed slightly, and Reia felt her limbs go slack. Resistance left her, and her eyelids felt heavy, very heavy, it wouldn't hurt to just close her eyes for a little while, would it? Of course... of course not... - - She awoke feeling much better. The aches were dulled, the pains were gone, and Professor Birch explained briefly that he had another of his Pokémon use recover on her at intervals during her sleep, trying to dilute any of the lasting damage she might have taken without using the machine again; it had worked for the actual damage, but the aches and pains seemed not to have gone away until they used more natural methods. But she was still in a tizzy. The first thing she had done was try and call home, but the phone connection did not carry over to the Orange Islands. She tried using the PC to contact them, but was pretty sure that her parents did not have an inverse connection to the mainland. She did, however, have a connection to her Pokémon boxes. None of her team was in them. "I lost them," she breathed. "I don't believe this, they're gone..." Some of the others were in the box, though. And she had resolved that she was going to make it back to the Orange Islands as soon as possible. She began drawing them from the PC Box, or at least the PC Box she had access to. Some of them seemed to be locked, for some reason, but those were mostly the ghosts at her disposal. Her Flish was at her disposal, but that seemed like a silly thing to bring with her, just splashing its way alongside her in battles. The Chitang was there, too, but she overlooked it. She did not much like monkeys, she would just avoid it. But Felare was there; she pulled the cat out of the PC. And Centitoe, also pulled out. There was also that strange blue and white canine, Kiriko... she withdrew him from the PC, as well. Those were the only three she could take with her, or opted to take with her, and she felt... awkward about it, to say the least. She had little experience with any of them, they were not her team, but she would have to make due. "Hold on," Professor Birch said. Reia looked to him as she belted the three pokeballs. "Yes, sir?" she asked. "I'd like to dissuade you from going out so soon," he said. "I know you're in better shape, but I still don't think you're fit enough to begin doing this." She frowned. He had been trying to dissuade her since she had woken up. "But if you insist," he continued, and produced a pokeball, which he held out to her, "I'd like to give you this for your journey." She looked at the pokeball curiously. "This?" she asked. He nodded. "One of the Pokémon I hold in reserve," he said, "for young trainers. It's one of the three I research most closely, and, well... I'd feel terrible if I sent you out there without a gift of my own." She took the pokeball and experimentally opened it, and manifest before her was a small, green reptile. She looked down at it for a moment, then up at Birch. "This is..." "A Treecko," he said. "I think it'll do you well on your journey." "Th-thank you, sir..." "I just want one thing in return," he said severely. "Be careful. It's dangerous going, and if you're going alone..." "Don't worry," she said quietly. "I managed myself well enough in the Orange Islands." "And you wound up unconscious in the ocean because of it," he snapped. "Be careful." She was quiet for a moment, but finally acquiesced. "I understand. Thank you." She bowed slightly, and then disappeared out the door. [ tl;dr Accepting Treecko as local starter. Also transferring Felare, Centitoe, and the Lunarion Kiriko onto my party; they're all level five. ] |
