Follower Pokémon: Pyroo

One thing about islands; they're surrounded by water. It only took Tierney a few minutes of walking before he realized that the Route 201 he was looking for was actually just a stretch of ocean between there and the next island, Valencia. Luckily, he was able to catch a ride with a man in a small boat. He and Pyroo hung out on the deck while the man stayed in the cabin, piloting the boat toward their destination. When out of seemingly nowhere came...

The tool of destruction appeared in front of the boat in the blink of an eye. The veins on its body glowed as a giant sphere of black energy took shape in its mouth and then it fired it towards you. It narrowly missed the boat, but the water it struck simply ceased to exist, causing the boat to lurch over to the right, as the ocean water quickly filled the hole left by the attack. You hung on for dear life as the boat lurched back and forth before straightening itself.

Then, as fast as it arrived, it disappeared, and a siron popped up out of the water.

Tierney and Pyroo were caught entirely off guard by the sudden appearance of the gigantic dragon-like thing. Even after it disappeared, it still took them a few seconds to realize that they were presumably safe. From the gap of water destroyed by the dragon emerged a Siron, hopping out of the water with a slight pop and giving a battle call.

"All right, Pyroo, let's go! Give him the Pattle treatment and Scratch him!"

Pyroo bounded off of the boat and onto Siron's head. It flexed its hands and its tiny claws popped out, and, with them, it started scratching at the Siron's large eyes. Pyroo thought they would be its weakest point; however, before it could manage to hit them, Siron dunked its head under the water nearly soaking Pyroo, but the fire Pokémon escaped onto the deck. Siron popped up again and splattered the deck with water, hoping to contain Pyroo's fire.

The water on the deck was mildly irritating to Pyroo, who'd spent most of his time trying to avoid the edges of the boat anyway. It enjoyed the direct sunlight and the wind. The water, on the other hand, was annoying.

"Pyroo, get it again! Try to land on its head and Scratch it again, then flip back onto the boat!"

INSERT WITTY PHRASE HERE!

Pyroo leapt and lashed out again, but alas, Siron pulled back too fast for it to actually land on its head. Pyroo fell in the water, and as he bobbed back to the surface, Siron shot off a blast of water point-blank.

Tierney could see that the Fire-type was hurting. As much as he wanted to catch the Siron, he knew that Pyroo wouldn't last much longer against it.

"Pyroo, return! Let's get away from this thing!"

Fleeing from the Siron, for some inexplicable reason your Pyroo was feeling better already - though it was probably still itching for a battle.

Pyroo looked disheartened that the two had to flee from something so unimposing as a Siron, but as Tierney toweled off the joey, he tried his hardest to bring the Pokémon's spirits back up.

"Wow, Pyroo, talk about a fluke, huh? We destroyed that guy's Pattle back at Tangelo, and it was also a Water-type. This one gave us a run for our money. Just goes to show how bad a trainer Grid is, am I right?"

Pyroo shook the last beads of sea from its short coat and smiled, winking at its trainer. Then, it leapt onto the deck behind him, its eyes locked on something in the water...

It was something blue. Another Siron possibly? But you soon realized it wasn't as the Pokémon shot out of the water water at an amazing speed and landed on the deck. This Pokémon was less intimidating than it made itself out to be.

"Another Water-type," Tierney said under his breath, unsure of his next course of action. Pyroo looked inspired, though, so the trainer decided to give it a shot. "All right, we're not gonna lose this one! Scratch attack, Pyroo!"

That's the problem with this route. These dang water-types all know water moves. In this case, it was bubble.

Pyroo's Scratch dealt fair damage to Telaqua, but it's responsive Bubble did quite a bit more.
